Allergist-immunologist Bidzina Kulumbegov spoke about the first link in the healthcare system, the severity of an omicron infection and pandemic management.

Kulumbegov calls the claim that Omicron does not damage the lungs a complete lie.

Regarding the first link in the healthcare system, the allergist-immunologist notes that there are problems in this regard and a global solution is needed.

“First of all, we need to strengthen healthcare, we need to win people's trust. In our country, if your finger hurts, then we are looking for a narrow specialist, which is not available in Germany, Austria and France. These are issues that require a global solution, and we cannot address them during a crisis. Therefore, this is a serious problem. To date, 2,000 family doctors have been mobilized and have the opportunity to monitor patients. But 2,000 doctors, of course, do not have unlimited opportunities,” Kulumbegov said.

When asked by a journalist how much the primary link can manage this process, Kulumbegov replied that it is impossible to improve the competence of doctors in a crisis.

“These are long-term problems that we cannot solve in a short period of time. Now it is impossible to improve the competence of doctors in a crisis. It takes several years of study. Today we have 57,000 active cases and 4,400 people in clinics. We cannot protect the citizens of our country because of our irresponsibility,” Kulumbegov said.

Regarding the statement of the head of the Department of Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze regarding the management of the pandemic, Bidzina Kulumbegov says that the management of the pandemic means how, for example, Finland fought the pandemic.

“In terms of pandemic management, Finland is an example. More than 5 million people live in this country, a total of 400 thousand people fell ill, 1700 people died. This is pandemic management," - Kulumbegov said.

Kulumbegov also spoke about the new strain of the Omicron coronavirus.

“The risk of hospitalization has decreased by about 50-70%. Mortality rates are also falling, but with more people getting sick in a short period of time, this will turn into big numbers. The symptoms are milder, but the infection remains incurable and is one of the most severe and destructive respiratory diseases.

“The statements of my colleagues that the disease only spreads to the upper respiratory tract and does not affect the lungs are an absolute lie,” - Kulumbegov told Pirveli TV.
