“It is impossible to compare the internal reforms carried out in Georgia with Ukraine and Moldova. Nevertheless, Ukraine and Moldova have received EU candidate status, while Georgia has not. In my opinion, Georgia deserved the status of an EU candidate more than Ukraine and Moldova.” This was stated by adviser to the de facto leader of Abkhazia on international relations Maxim Gvindzhia.

Gvindzhia made this statement during the Sukhumi-Moscow video bridge on the topic "Security of Abkhazia in the context of events in Georgia and Ukraine", which was held at the Sputnik-Abkhazia press center.

“The fact that Ukraine and Moldova received the status of candidates for EU membership is a populist decision. Internal reforms and changes in Georgia cannot be compared with Ukraine and Moldova. However, in the course of the voting, Ukraine received the status of a candidate, while Georgia did not. In my opinion, if anyone deserves the status of a candidate from this trio, it is Georgia. It is clear that this status was not given to Georgia because of the events in Ukraine. Tbilisi did not join the sanctions imposed on Russia. At the same time, it is clear that the status of an EU candidate does not give these countries anything, except for the queue number in front of the window, which may close before your turn comes, ”Gvindzhia said.

He also noted that the Turkish factor plays an important role in Georgia's domestic and foreign policy. Georgia has good relations with Turkey and there are many business projects between the two countries.

Regarding the risks for occupied Abkhazia from Tbilisi, Gvindzhia said: “Sukhumi has no illusions that Georgia will try to solve its territorial problems only by peaceful means.” At the same time, Gvindzhia says that there are more people in Georgia who oppose any war.” Georgia is building up its military potential, what we need to do in this situation is to have the armed forces ready and avoid panic,” Aslan Bzhaniya’s adviser said.

Maksim Gvindzhia says that until it comes to a military confrontation, there is always an opportunity to solve problems through diplomacy.
