Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of emergency for 3 months in 10 provinces of the southern part of the country affected by the earthquake. This is reported by the Turkish media.

Erdogan noted that two large earthquakes in the epicenters of Pazardzhik and Elbistan, where more than 13 million people live, caused widespread destruction.

According to Erdogan, Turkey is facing the greatest catastrophe not only in its history, but also in world history.

“The dangers caused by numerous aftershocks have had a negative impact on rescue efforts. Despite difficult conditions, we continue search and rescue operations with the support of our citizens and volunteers.

Our 53,317 search and rescue and support personnel are currently working in the disaster area. Their number is increasing every hour due to groups from Turkey and from abroad,” Erdogan said.

On February 6, a devastating earthquake struck Turkey. The death toll in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 5,000. A large-scale rescue operation is currently underway in Turkey.
