By European Commission Decision 2022/34, Georgia has been added to the list of countries from which the export of snails to the EU market is allowed.

This decision was facilitated by the measures taken by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and the National Food Agency to bring Georgia closer to EU legislation prepared under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA).

It should be noted that a number of projects supporting the development of snail production in Georgia have been implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, the Rural Development Agency. In total, 38 loans worth more than 10 million lari were issued for the creation and development of snail production within the framework of a preferential agro-credit project, while co-financing issued by the Rural Development Agency amounted to more than 824,000 lari.

It should be noted that in 2021, 173 tons of honey were exported to various markets, including 143 tons to European countries. The cost of exported honey amounted to 657 thousand US dollars. The growth of export volumes, compared to the same period last year, is 436%.
