The Tbilisi City Court fully accepted the evidence presented by the prosecutor's office and found the foreign citizen guilty of legalizing illegal income on a large scale. Information is disseminated by the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.
“During the trial, it was proved that the convict brought to Georgia in cash the equivalent of 1,400,000 lari in various currencies in order to give legal form to a particularly large amount of money obtained by criminal means abroad. In order not to raise doubts about the origin of the assets, the defendant provided false data in the customs declaration.
The convict used illegal proceeds from crime to buy real estate and expensive cars.
According to the court verdict, it was established that the convict legalized proceeds in the amount of 400,000 euros and 50,000 US dollars obtained by criminal means.
The Tbilisi City Court found the defendant fully guilty of the charges and sentenced him to 6 years of suspended imprisonment with the same probationary period.
He was also fined 500,000 lari, and 6 expensive cars obtained by criminal means for a total amount of about 850,000 lari, namely two Mercedes "S" class, two SUVs Lexus LX 570, Mercedes MAYBACH "S 560" and an SUV RANGE ROVER EVOQUE were confiscated in favor of the state," the information released by the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia says.
