The court acquitted all four defendants in the case of illegal border crossing by Mikheil Saakashvili, father and son Tsotsoria, Giorgi Narimanidze and Elgudzha Tsomai.
Lawyers filed a motion to release the defendants on $5,000 bail. The judge granted the lawyers' motion.
“The defendants pleaded guilty, the defense undoubtedly presented all the evidence, so it was decided to grant the request for release on bail. The confession of guilt led to a commutation of the sentence,” - prosecutor Levan Vepkhvadze said.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation into the illegal crossing of the border by Mikheil Saakashvili on October 1. Four people were arrested in this case.
The investigation was conducted under the second part of Article 375 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (concealment of a serious crime), which provides for imprisonment for a term of 1 to 4 years.
